India–Iran Rice Trade: Strengthening a Strategic Partnership

 

India and Iran share a long-standing and strategically significant trade relationship, with rice being one of the key commodities exchanged between the two nations. On 18 December 2025, a high-level delegation from India met with H.E. Dr. Mohammad Fathali, Ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Iran, at the Embassy of Iran in New Delhi, to discuss opportunities for deepening bilateral trade, address operational challenges, and explore ways to enhance collaboration between Indian rice exporters and Iranian authorities.

India’s rice exports to Iran have historically been robust, reflecting a partnership built on trust, consistent quality, and mutual cooperation. The meeting aimed to reinforce these foundations, streamline trade processes, and identify measures to make rice trade smoother and more predictable for both sides.

 

Representatives from India included Mr. Satish Goel (President, AIREA), Dr. Tarun Bajaj (Director, BEDF), Mr. Jaikumar Gupta (MD, Suppletek), and Mr. Akshay Gupta (KRBL Ltd.). The Iranian delegation, led by H.E. Dr. Fathali, included Mr. Abolfazl Rohanifard, Second Secretary of the Economic Section.
